Denver Summit FC has signed English international center-back Gemma Bonner (#13) to the squad through the end of the season, the club announced on Saturday.
Across a professional career spanning more than 15 years and over 360 appearances, Bonner has competed in the Women’s Premier League, the Women’s Super League, and the National Women’s Soccer League. Most recently, she returned to Liverpool F.C. in 2023, where she spent the past three seasons (2023–26) before joining Summit FC.
In 2023, Bonner became Liverpool F.C. Women’s all-time leader as she made her 135th career appearance for the Reds. She went on to finish her nine seasons with the club having made 177 appearances, while captaining the club to back-to-back FA Women’s Super League titles in 2013 and 2014. On the international stage, the English native earned 12 caps with the England Women’s National Team and was part of the squad that won the 2019 SheBelieves Cup.
“We’re thrilled to bring in a proven winner with this level of experience,” General Manager Curt Johnson said. “She’s competed in multiple leagues and consistently found ways to make an impact wherever she’s been. That kind of veteran presence is invaluable—not just for what she’ll contribute on the field, but for the example she’ll set in the locker room. We’re excited to have her as part of our organization.”
Before returning to Liverpool, Bonner spent two seasons with Racing Louisville FC (2021–22) after a successful four-year stint with Manchester City (2018–21) where she played under Head Coach Nick Cushing from 2018-20. During her time with City, the English defender helped the club capture two Women’s FA Cup titles (2018–19, 2019–20) and the 2018–19 Women’s League Cup. She also contributed offensively, scoring 10 goals across her four seasons with the club.
